This project involved the construction and fitting out of a new pole barn to provide shelter for vehicles and equipment, an office and restroom for the staff, storage for spare parts, fittings, and valves, and a workshop for fabrication and repair of piping, valves, fittings, and more in support of continued critical operation of the CenTrio Syracuse University Steam Station, Chilled Water Plant, and their respective distribution systems. Staff who work in this building perform daily maintenance in the two nearby steam plants and chilled water plant as well as on campus throughout dozens of steam vaults, customer building service entrances, and miles of buried steam, condensate, and chilled water pipe. The new building was constructed to replace a smaller, poorly lit, and outdated garage space that was removed to accommodate expansion of an existing chilled water plant under CenTrio and Syracuse University’s Central Utility Plant Modernization Program.
