Phil Peterson established his private engineering practice in January 1992, following 21 years of experience in consulting engineering and related fields. His professional background includes work with two consulting engineering firms and an independent testing laboratory.
Phil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University in 1970, where he was elected to Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honor Society. After serving on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and working in the restaurant industry, Phil co-founded Mid-Lakes Navigation Company, an excursion boat business, where he served as Vice President.
He later joined Calocerinos and Spina Consulting Engineers (now C&S Companies), becoming head of the Mechanical Department and earning his Professional Engineer license in 1982. At C&S, Phil led mechanical and electrical design teams on large-scale projects including civil sanitary systems, chemical plants, airports, and defense-related infrastructure. Notably, he served as project engineer for support facilities on a major over-the-horizon radar program.
In 1984, Phil became Manager of Engineering and Facilities at ETL Testing Laboratories in Cortland, NY. There, he oversaw the construction and maintenance of testing facilities for ARI certification of HVAC equipment, GAMA appliance testing, and manufacturer testing of commercial, industrial, and residential products. He later joined Fraser & Fassler Consulting Engineers in 1988, focusing on mechanical systems design for university, commercial, and industrial facilities.
In 1992, Phil launched his own consulting engineering practice, which would evolve into PGPC.
Phil is a past president of the Central New York Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the Practicing Institute of Engineering (PIE), the International Code Council (ICC), and the International District Energy Association (IDEA). He is a LEED Accredited Professional.
Phil continues to serve the profession and community as a member of the Onondaga County Plumbing Board of Examiners.
